Went there to ask about the temporary downtime today and the channel was empty.

am there but the operator JPeterson is asleep. No worries though. I think it would be have more traffic if :-

a. There is a web-based irc channel link too.
b. Use week-ends or something for people to attempt to get some of the subs done, find about it or generally talk.

If somebody takes ownership and does drive this I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work.
